Photo Collage Sizes for Instagram, Stories and Prints
The right pixel size for every collage: Instagram, stories, WhatsApp, Facebook, and print sizes from 4×6 to 24×36 at 300 dpi.
The biggest collage mistake isn't the layout. It's the size. Make a collage at the wrong ratio and Instagram crops it, or the print shop trims off the edges.
Use this guide to set your canvas size before you add photos.
Social media
| Platform | Ratio | Pixels |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram post (portrait) | 4:5 | 1080 × 1350 |
| Instagram post (square) | 1:1 | 1080 × 1080 |
| Instagram / Facebook story, WhatsApp status | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 |
| Facebook feed post | 4:5 or 1:1 | 1080 × 1350 / 1080 × 1080 |
| Pinterest pin | 2:3 | 1000 × 1500 |
| YouTube thumbnail, desktop wallpaper | 16:9 | 1920 × 1080 |
Print sizes (at 300 dpi)
| Ratio | Pixels | |
|---|---|---|
| 4 × 6 in | 2:3 | 1200 × 1800 |
| 5 × 7 in | 5:7 | 1500 × 2100 |
| 8 × 10 in | 4:5 | 2400 × 3000 |
| A4 | ≈ 1:1.41 | 2480 × 3508 |
| 12 × 12 in | 1:1 | 3600 × 3600 |
| 16 × 20 in | 4:5 | 4800 × 6000 |
| 24 × 36 in poster | 2:3 | 7200 × 10800 |
For large posters, 150–200 dpi is usually fine because they're viewed from a distance.
Which ratio for which print?
- 2:3 covers 4×6, 8×12 and 24×36.
- 4:5 covers 8×10 and 16×20.
- 1:1 is for square prints and photo books.
Setting the size
In the free online collage maker, choose 1:1, 4:5, 9:16, 2:3, 3:2 or 16:9. Downloads are 2400 px on the long side, which is enough for an 8×10 print at 240 dpi or any social post. In the FotoCollage app you can set the canvas size and export in high quality.
Tip: printers trim a few millimetres from the edges. Keep faces and text at least 3% away from the border.
