How to Make a Photo Collage Online for Free (No Sign-Up)
Make a photo collage online in under a minute, free with no account and no watermark. Step-by-step instructions, the best layouts and tips for sharp downloads.
Most "free" online collage makers ask you to create an account, push you towards a paid plan, or stamp a watermark on your download. You don't need any of that for a clean photo grid.
Our free online collage maker runs entirely in your browser. There's no sign-up and no watermark, and your photos never leave your device. Here's how to use it.
Step by step
- Open the collage maker on a phone, tablet or computer.
- Add photos. Click Add photos and select several at once, or drag them straight onto the canvas from your desktop. Empty cells fill up in order.
- Pick a layout. Choose from 12 layouts: 2 side by side, 2 stacked, 3 in columns or rows, 4 in a grid, a photo strip, a hero photo with three below, 5, 6 and a 3×3 grid of 9.
- Choose a size. 1:1 square, 4:5 portrait, 9:16 story, 2:3 and 3:2 for prints, or 16:9 widescreen.
- Frame each photo. Drag a photo inside its cell to move the crop. Click a cell to replace its photo.
- Style it. Use the sliders for spacing and rounded corners, and pick a background colour.
- Download. Click Download collage to save a high-quality JPG, 2400 pixels on the long side.
Which layout should I choose?
| Photos | Best layout | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Side by side or stacked | Before and after, then and now |
| 3 | One big + two small | A hero shot with details |
| 4 | 2×2 grid or photo strip | Events, photo booth style |
| 5–6 | Mixed grid | Trips, weekends, parties |
| 9 | 3×3 grid | Year recaps, "my best photos of" |
Tips for a sharp download
- Use original photos, not screenshots or images saved from chat apps, which are often compressed.
- Don't over-crop tiny cells. In a 3×3 grid each cell is small, so pick photos with one clear subject.
- Match the size to the destination. 4:5 for Instagram posts, 9:16 for stories and Reels covers, 2:3 for 4×6 prints. See the collage size guide for exact pixel sizes.
- White or cream backgrounds look clean on any feed. Black makes colourful photos pop.
When you need more than a grid
An online grid is perfect for a quick share. For birthday tributes, wedding albums or travel recaps you'll probably want text, stickers, patterned backgrounds, frames and filters. That's what the FotoCollage app for iPhone adds, along with templates you can fill in seconds and projects you can save and finish later.
